Daniele Catalanotto is a Service Design nerd, practitioner, author, and educator who tries to make Service Design simple for anyone. Since March 2024, Daniele co-leads the MA Service Design of the HSLU with Andy Polaine.

Service Design Education Work

In 2019, Daniele founded the Swiss Innovation Academy, a project that aims to make Service Design simple for everyone.

Through this project, he supported over 13’000 individuals working in organisations such as Apple, Google, Airbnb, Microsoft, Amazon, Philips, Vodafone, Atlassian, Volvo, Deutsche Bank, EY, J.P. Morgan, Deloitte, WordPress, Visa, NHS, Shopify, the International Committee of the Red Cross and more.

In Switzerland, Daniele has taught Innovation, Design and Service Design skills in academia at the Bachelor and Master levels (CREA Genève and HSLU, Lucerne School of Design) and in enterprises (IKEA, Romande Energie and HUG, Geneva University Hospitals).

Since 2018, Daniele has published several books and courses on Service Design.

Service Design Community Work

Since 2023, Daniele has been the president of the Service Design Network Switzerland Chapter, which organises monthly webinars for Service Design professionals.

In 2019, he co-founded the “Service Design Jobs” website with Marc Fonteijn, the largest archive of job posts for service designers.

In-house Service Design Work

From 2019 to 2024, Daniele worked as an “Innovation Coach” for the Salvation Army. There, he facilitated the creation of strategies for the Salvation Army France and Belgium Territory, the Salvation Army in Hungary and the Salvation Army Switzerland Church Work Department.

Consultancy Work

In 2018, he worked as “Senior Innovation Consultant” at Good Innovation on projects for The British Heart Foundation (BHF) and The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).

From 2014 to 2018, he worked as “Senior Design Strategist” at Enigma where he collaborated with organisations like Daimler China, Ricola Thailand, Raiffeisen, RTS, Camille Bloch, EWZ, Valser Service, the City of Carouge and more.

From 2009 to 2014, Daniele worked as a “Regional Communication Director” for the Salvation Army, defining and implementing the communication strategy for the local branches of Lausanne, Renens and Morges in Switzerland.

In 2008 to 2013, Daniele was part of the artistic collective tuesmoche with Alex Crettenand.

Education

Daniele has a Master of Arts in Service Design from the HSLU, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (2013-2015), and a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication and Graphic Design from ECAL, Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne (2009-2013). In 2012, he completed an Erasmus in Graphic Design at the LHI, Iceland University of the Arts.
