Candies make people smarter

Research shows that when you give candies to people before they take decisions helps them make smarter decisions. A study by psychologist Alice Isen shows this pattern. Doctors who received sweets were far more likely to diagnose the patient’s problem correctly.

«When people feel happy, they have better access to more varied material in their memory. They are more creative problem-solvers because their minds are more `alive,’ and they are less easily confused.» — Alice Isen

For service designers, this means that we should build a positive and joyful atmosphere. That is an easy way to can improve the work or decision making of people. Even simple things like offering candies have an influence. That is once again the proof that mini service design actions can improve the experience of a service. And even change the experience in a fundamental way.
